About this role

Otsuka America Pharmaceutical has launched a new customer engagement model focused on local ecosystems to better serve patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers. The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Associate Director) provides deep clinical expertise on-demand within this matrix model. This field-based role engages healthcare providers with personalized education on disease states and approved products.

As an integral ecosystem team member, the Senior MSL contributes to developing the strategic business plan and identifies key stakeholders vital to the ecosystem. They deliver clinical, scientific, and health economic information related to disease states and Otsuka products. Engagement occurs with Key Influencers, Local Practice Leaders, healthcare providers, and patients’ groups to advance patient outcomes.

The role collaborates with Health Science Associates, Patient Education Liaisons, and Ecosystem Leads grouped into regional areas. HSAs use in-person, virtual, and digital tools for expanded product expertise. Regional Leads provide autonomy to customize strategies reflecting local customer needs.

CSLs customize region business strategies to meet ecosystem needs and handle medical and educational requirements. They may cover multiple products within a therapeutic area and engage in broad clinical discussions. This generates rich customer insights shared across the ecosystem for improved patient care.

Requirements

  • Deep clinical expertise in rare diseases and therapeutic areas
  • Strong understanding of evolving healthcare trends and ecosystem dynamics
  • Experience engaging healthcare providers with scientific and medical information
  • Ability to provide health economic information on product utilization
  • Knowledge of real-world evidence and thought leadership in pharmaceuticals
  • Field-based experience in customer engagement models
  • Credibility as a scientific partner with Key Influencers and Local Practice Leaders

Responsibilities

  • Contribute a clinical and scientific perspective to the local execution plan addressing ecosystem challenges and opportunities
  • Build, cultivate, and leverage external relationships with key scientific and medical customers within the ecosystem
  • Provide clinical, scientific, and health economic information on disease states and approved Otsuka products
  • Engage Key Influencers, Local Practice Leaders, healthcare providers, and patients’ groups to improve patient outcomes
  • Offer personalized education on disease state, thought leadership, and real-world evidence to healthcare providers
  • Collaborate with ecosystem partners to customize region business strategy for local needs
  • Coordinate field activities and identify opportunities to bridge care gaps through digital-enabled support
  • Share customer insights from broad clinical and scientific discussions impacting patient care
