About this role

This position is located in Strathroy, Ontario, one of two sites in Canada offering softgel development and manufacturing for Pharmaceutical and Consumer Health industries. Reporting to the Department Supervisor, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Encapsulation Operator handles set-up and operation of encapsulation machines per standard operating procedures and safety requirements. The role ensures compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices while producing consistent, good quality product.

Operators set up encapsulation machines, check fill and shell weights, measure seam integrity, and perform corrective adjustments as needed. They spread capsules on trays, inspect for defects, stack and label trays, then transfer to drying tunnels. Throughout the shift, they monitor machines and capsules for issues, confirming gelatin and fill tanks meet temperature, color, and batch specifications.

The work environment is 100% on-site with 12-hour rotating continental shifts covering days and nights. Employees utilize hands and fingers for handling tasks requiring manual dexterity, with occasional standing, walking, reaching, and exposure to chemicals. The site provides integrated formulation, manufacturing, analytical, and packaging services for full turnkey solutions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED/CAEC and/or educational credential assessment (ECA) required
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical and/or GMP facility preferred
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to schedule
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and mathematical skills including basic calculations
  • High degree of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Manual dexterity for sitting, handling, feeling, and keyboard tasks
  • Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, and exposure to chemicals

Responsibilities

  • Set up encapsulation machines and operate them according to Standard Operating Procedures, producing good quality product
  • Check fill and shell weights, measure seam integrity, change fill and gel tanks/receivers, and perform corrective adjustments
  • Spread capsules on trays, check for defects, compile trays into stacks, label, and transfer stacks to drying tunnel
  • Confirm gelatin and fill tanks conform to temperature, color, batch number, and receiver sequences before machine use
  • Monitor encapsulation machine and capsules throughout the shift for issues and correct as needed
  • Complete all documentation required, including in-process checks, set-ups, start-ups, and changeovers
  • Change and clean machine parts as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
