The Advanced Molecule Design team optimizes molecules into strong drug candidates that become breakthrough medicines. This leader reports to the Head of Medicinal Chemistry to advance projects in oncology, immunology, pain, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and obesity. Success requires supervising and mentoring medicinal chemistry project leaders and scientists to solve tough challenges.

Oversee a portfolio of small molecule programs from lead identification to quality drug candidates. Make sound scientific decisions balancing speed, rigor, and timely no-go calls. Foster 'ONE TEAM, SAME TEAM' collaboration across Lilly with radical transparency.

Elevate team performance through coaching in Deep Thinking, Execution & Delivery, Culture & Teamwork, and Growth Mindset. Apply modern computational methods including AI/ML to accelerate programs. Build a culture rewarding teamwork, individual growth, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Deeply experienced leader with track record of success leading Med Chem teams to clinical candidates
  • Seasoned drug hunter skilled in supervising and mentoring medicinal chemistry project leaders and scientists
  • Proven ability to solve tough med chem challenges and excel at synthetic execution
  • Innovative leader with strong growth mindset to evolve Medicinal Chemistry team skills
  • Expertise in advancing projects across oncology, immunology, pain, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and obesity
  • Ability to foster highly collaborative culture rewarding teamwork and individual accountability
